The need for legal services for the low income population in DeKalb County is enormous. According to the 2000 census, over 75,000 people live at or below the poverty level in DeKalb County, Georgia. Low income individuals have troubled personal relationships, landlord/tenant issues, and consumer law issues much like other citizens. However, many of our clients are poorly educated, elderly, or sick, and as a result, they are often the victims of unscrupulous businesses or other family members. Many of our clients are single parent families that do not receive adequate support from the absent parent. They need your help!!!
In addition, pro bono efforts help to improve the public's perception of our profession. No other profession in our community has done as much for its citizens as the legal profession. Hundreds of attorneys have donated untold hours of free legal services through the Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to making the public and the profession more aware of the pro bono efforts of our volunteer attorneys.
Some benefits of membership in DVLF:
•Receptions for members which is attended by our DeKalb Judges and appellate judges, as well as other elected officials and guests.
•The Foundation offers State Bar approved CLE courses to all of our volunteers at our cost.
•Attorneys accepting three or more pro bono referrals during a single calendar year may be entitled to receive a certificate for a $150.00 discount off the cost of an ICLE program.
