DeKalb Pro Bono provides free legal clinics that allow clients to connect with lawyers for a short consultation to get answers to specific civil legal questions and receive legal advice. Below is an overview of these legal clinics. To find out of you qualify, or to be scheduled for a clinic appointment, please complete our online form.
Probate Information Center
The Probate Information Center operates as a partnership with the DeKalb County Probate Court and the Estate Planning Section of the Atlanta Bar Association. Lawyers provide 45-minute consultations regarding uncontested estates of deceased DeKalb County residents. The clinic is held every other Thursday by appointment only.
The Debt Clinic offers information and resources for people struggling with debt. Lawyers provide 30-minute consultations to discuss matters such as how to respond to a debt collection lawsuit or wage garnishment. The clinic is held every other Tuesday by appointment only. There is no income requirement for this clinic.
Family Law Clinic
Lawyers provide 30-minute consultations to discuss matters such as uncontested divorces, legitimations, child support modifications, and preparation of child support worksheets. Only uncontested, non-complex matters will be considered. Clinics are held every other Tuesday by appointment only.
Temporary Protective Order Project
The Temporary Protective Order Project provides legal representation to survivors of domestic violence, dating violence and stalking seeking civil temporary protective orders. Petitioners who have obtained an Ex-Parte Temporary Protective Order can request representation through DeKalb Pro Bono for their evidentiary hearing. This program is a partnership with DeKalb Pro Bono, DeKalb County Magistrate Court, the Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, and Tapestri.
Guardian Ad Litem Project
The Guardian Ad Litem Project provides lawyers for cases assigned by DeKalb County Superior Court to advocate for the best interest of the children in contested custody disputes. Services are provided only by referral from the court.
Attorney Referral Project
Cases that are eligible for legal assistance, that are not served through our clinics or other programs, are served through the Attorney Referral Project. We will seek to connect eligible participants with a volunteer lawyer who can offer legal assistance and case representation in the following areas: bankruptcy, landlord/tenant disputes, wills and social security matters.
